Sevens star re-signs with Counties Manukau Rugby

02 January 2010

Counties Manukau winger and New Zealand Seven's Sherwin Stowers has re-sign with Counties Manukau Rugby Football Union for three years.

The Ardmore Marist player was one of the standout players for the Counties Manukau side in 2009 and was awarded the ‘Most Improved Player of the Year'.  Sherwin a twenty-three year old student, has also showed impressive form on the World Sevens Circuit this year.  He was the leading try scorer in the Dubai tournament and played an instrumental role in the New Zealand team's wins in Dubai and George.

Stowers has chosen to stay with Counties Manukau despite many offers from some high profile Unions. Sherwin says "I absolutely love being part of Counties Manukau, this is my home and the Union that really gave me a chance.  We have a young team with plenty of talent, so if we can stick together we will start to see the results we desire and I want to be a part of that".

Counties Manukau CEO Phil McConnell said "We are wrapped with Sherwin's loyalty to the Union, he is a talented player, who has had a great season and will only continue to grow.  It is also encouraging for rugby to see someone who is passionate about their Union and prepared to back themselves with the Union's where they learned their rugby".

Counties Manukau has also re-signed halfback Samisoni Fisilau from Manurewa and Loose Forward Viliami Fihaki from Patumahoe.
