Under 15 Development Day displays great talent

26 July 2010

Fifty eight players from teams across the CMRFU rugby region attended the U15 Development day held at Wesley College, Sunday 25 July.

The day started out with a yoyo test, which is designed to test the fitness levels of the players. The players then transitioned through four skills stations designed to teach the fundamental skills of the game. These stations were Tackle, Contact, Handling and counter attack. There was an abundance of talent on display which is encouraging for the future Counties Manukau Rugby.

In the second part of the day the Steelers players joined in with the skill station coaches and worked with the players on how to approach their role specifically. This was very positive for the young players as they got to mix and mingle with some up and coming stars of the game and learnt how to carry out their role to a very high standard.

Two quads of twenty six players will be selected near the end of the normal school/club competition. Notification will be sent to the TIC's and the teams will be placed on the website.

CMRFU wishes to acknowledge Wesley College, Mike Tod and Chris Bean for allowing us to use the facilities and very kindly offering their services and I'd also like to thank all the coaches and support staff who assisted with the day;  Julian Stone (CMRFU U16's head coach), Sam Higgins (Steelers head trainer), Pat Flavell (CMRFU U20's coach), Chris Bean (CMRFU U18's coach), Nick Leger (Player Development Manager), Milton Haig (Steelers head coach), Kerry Petrie (CMRFU Referee education officer) Dameon Chaney (CMRFU Rugby development officer), Annette Smith (CMRFU Liaison Officer); Counties Manukau Steelers: Jamie Chipman, Ray Lee-lo, August Pulu, Mark Selwyn, Ahsee Tuala, Shaun Knight and Baden Kerr.
