1st XV Secondary School Round Up - May 14

Chiefs Cup, Trophy & Bowl:

In the BIG match of the week, Alfriston came out victors over a spirited and improving Waiuku side. The final score for the match was 44 - 10 however it wasn't a one sided affair of dominance. Waiuku managed to maintain a good percentage of ball and were competitive in tight but Alfriston had too many big wide ranging loose forwards lead by their captain Dylan du Plessis who dotted down 4 times with some individual brilliance on the back of some good lead up work by his team. Du Plessis said in a pre-match interview that they wanted to gain early forward dominance, stick to and have faith in their structures and play some expansive footy. The team managed to achieve these things for most of the match however coach Siaosi Tuatao believed there is still more improvement needed in these areas. Overall the result is positive for both sides given their small pre-season programmes and their results from last week.

The Wesley College 2nd XV were also victors in their Chiefs trophy match against Thames High winning the match 41 - 7. There were some great phases of play out together by the young Wesley side. Centre Simione Ofa made some telling breaks and got his team going forward.

In the other Chiefs matches:
Wesley College 1st XV went down to St Pauls College 39 - 10. Coach Jerry Leaupepe makes no excuses for the performance. The boys will just have to take this one as a learning experience and come back stronger next week.

Rosehill college lost 88 - 0 to St Peters and Pukekohe High had their game postponed due to Morrinsville having a measel outbreak.
