Community helps Puni Rugby with facelift

The Puni Rugby Club changing rooms and clubrooms have undergone their first renovation in almost 50 years thanks to some local community support.

Various local businesses and Counties Manukau Rugby have come together to help spruce up the storied club ahead of the 2022 season.

The facilities badly needed a new roof and so that has been added while the building has been given a serious paint job as well.

“There's a few changes - first the roof has been done on the clubhouse itself,” Puni coach Tori Potini said. “We have been bringing a group of boys that are training at the moment. It’s been a couple of weekends spent up there and you know, it's been good.

“It's massive for our future, for our kids, massive for them because we've just got kids coming back onboard playing at the moment. We've got four teams here – U13, U8 and U5s and 6s. They haven't had kids for a while now.

“The future looks pretty bright.”

Potini was quick to point out the hard work and assistance his club has received.

“Annette [CMRFU Club Capability Manager Annette Tossell] really helped us get this over the line and just the community really, the big sponsors - Counties Scaffolding, Riteline Roofing, NZ Steel, Franklin Roofing, Placemakers and Resene.”
