The Counties Manukau Heat remain at the top of the Farah Palmer Cup table, after recording their fifth win from five games against the Wellington Pride on Friday night at ECOLight Stadium.

The Heat came away with a 37-5 victory over Wellington, with Renee Wickliffe, Leilani Perese and Hazel Tubic dotting down once each and skipper Arihiana Marino and Victoria Subritzky-Nafatali scoring doubles. Tubic also kicked a conversion. Wickliffe opened the scoring for the Heat inside the opening 15 minutes, before Perese, Marino and Subritzky-Nafatali scored in quick succession to give the home side a 20-0 lead at half time.

The Heat’s defence was solid and only with 15 minutes to go on the clock did Wellington score their first and only try of the game. The Heat celebrated their victory by singing in front of the crowd at ECOLight Stadium. Their final round robin game of the Farah Palmer Cup is a top of the table clash with Auckland at Massey Park in Papakura on Saturday 17 September at midday. Make sure to get along and support our girls, for what will be a huge match to determine the finals.

Our two Counties Manukau ‘B’ sides came together to face off on Saturday at Karaka Sports Park, with the Red’s taking the win over Black 28-20. The boot of Nathan de Thierry proved to be the difference, with both sides scoring three tries each.

CM Red opened the scoring with a penalty to de Thierry after five minutes. It was CM Black who scored the opening try of the match, through Richard Mariota to make the score 5-3. Red replied with two more de Thierry penalties, before CM Black kicked a penalty and Josh Stol scored to make the half time score 12-9.

CM Black extended their half time lead with a penalty kick to Ray Laulala, but after that CM Red got on a roll and scored three tries to quick succession to Asa Lehauli, Sione Anga’aelangi and Kalione Hala. Bradford Lemalufai’toaga scored right on fulltime, but it wasn’t enough and CM Red took the victory.
