Number 2: Alan Dawson

No player has represented Counties Manukau more times than the legendary Alan Dawson. A rugged and hard-working number eight, Dawson was the epitome of provincial rugby and dedication.

One of Waiuku’s finest products, Dawson played a staggering 202 games for the Steelers from 1976 until 1989, captaining the side in his latter years.

Through that time he won the NPC 1st Division in 1979 and helped make Counties a force to be reckoned with.

Unlucky not to have made the All Blacks, Dawson was one of those players that rarely had a bad game and was unbelievably durable considering how tough he played.
