Heat lose to strong Canterbury side

The Counties Energy Heat have lost to Canterbury 33-17 in their Farah Palmer Cup presented by Bunnings Warehouse clash in Christchurch on Saturday.

The result means Saua Leaupepetele’s side will need Bay of Plenty to beat Hawke’s Bay on Sunday to remain in semi-final contention.

The Counties Energy Heat opened the scoring when Black Ferns star Ruby Tui scored the first of two tries on the day.

Canterbury worked their way back into the contest and had a 11-9 penalty count in their favour shortly before halftime.

Trailing 14-7 at the break, the Counties Energy Heat pulled within two points of the lead with Tui’s second try but it was Canterbury that dominated the game from that point.

Mererangi Paul scored a consolation try late.

The Counties Energy Heat play their final round robin game next weekend against Hawke’s Bay.
