Karaka face wounded, motivated Patumahoe

Karaka will be wary of a wounded Patumahoe side when the two competition heavyweights square off in the final game of the first round in the McNamara Cup at Patumahoe on Saturday.

Fresh off a bye, Craig Hill’s side will meet a Patumahoe outfit smarting from their first loss in round robin play in two seasons.

Both clubs have dropped their last game – both against an in-form Pukekohe side – making this week’s contest the game that will decide who comes out top in the first round.

Pukekohe will look to continue their run of form when they visit old foes Manurewa at Mountfort Park.

Manurewa have a loose grip on fourth spot at present but can be overtaken if they were to go down to Pukekohe.

Bombay visits Papakura at Massey Park in a battle between fifth and sixth and two sides that have their eyes set on semi-final rugby this season.

The battle between Patumahoe and Karaka in Bob Chandler Cup Premier Reserves this weekend will determine who tops the standings after the first round.

Both sides are on maximum points heading into the contest.

Beachlands Maraetai are back home at Te Puru Park in the U85kg competition as they host fellow top four outfit Waiuku.

Karaka visits Pukekohe, defending champions Onewhero hosts Drury while Ardmore Marist and Patumahoe do battle at Bruce Pulman Park.

In the Presidents grade, Pukekohe travels north to play Waitemata while Ardmore Marist heads west to play Waitakere.
