Karaka protected their blemish-free McNamara Cup record
Karaka protected their blemish-free McNamara Cup record with a hard-fought 15-3 win over Pukekohe at Karaka Sports Complex on Saturday. Craig Hill’s side led for most of the game but were unable to shake their opponents in a stop-start affair. They finally sealed the win late in the contest but fall to second on the standings after Patumahoe’s bonus point win against Manurewa. Karaka has a game in hand, however.

“A very tight game with not a lot in it – could have gone either way,” said Hill. “Really pleased with our defence. Had a handful of chances at various times during the game, Puke scrambled well to cut those off. Look forward to Patty at Patty now, never easy out there.”

Patumahoe proved too good for defending champions Manurewa, running out 34-19 winners at Mountfort Park. The Brad Healy-coached Patumahoe outfit has lost only once this season – to Karaka – and now look set to battle it out for top spot over the coming weekends.

Bombay jumped into the top four with a convincing 73-10 win over Ardmore Marist at Bruce Pulman Park. The win ensures Mike Tuiloma’s side now faces a head-to-head battle with Manurewa for the final playoff spot. The two sides meet in a mouth-watering contest this coming weekend.
