Patumahoe wins inaugural John Spiers Trophy

Patumahoe have won the inaugural John Spiers Trophy after a thrilling final in the Wider Auckland Club Knock Out competition against North Shore on Saturday.

The two sides traded scores throughout the contest at Patumahoe Domain but it was the home side that eventually came out on top 20-19.

It was a fitting way to complete a successful first edition of the tournament that saw leading clubs from Auckland, North Harbour and Counties Manukau compete.

Legendary former All Black, Counties and Pukekohe stalwart John Spiers was on hand to present Patumahoe skipper Will Furniss the trophy.

Elsewhere Manurewa edged Ponsonby 39-31, while Manukau thumped Karaka 52-7.

Pukekohe claimed the BCITO Te Pukenga Trophy after taking out Pool 2 despite having their final round match against Kumeu called off due to players in the Kumeu side testing positive for COVID.

They picked up three wins from three in the competition.

Bombay too had three wins as they beat Papatoetoe 31-24 while Eden defeated Papakura 43-24.
