PIC Steelers come up short against Wellington

The PIC Steelers have lost to Wellington 56-25 in their Ranfurly Shield challenge at Sky Stadium in Wellington on Saturday night.

The visitors struck early through a penalty goal but found themselves chasing the game after the Lions scored a pair of tries in quick succession.

Hooker Ioane Moananu got the PIC Steelers back into the contest with a nice solo try before the Lions kicked clear again.

Once again, the PIC Steelers found themselves on the wrong end of a penalty count and had to play 10 minutes with only 14 men due to repeat infringing.

They did get themselves a bonus point for scoring four tries.

The loss means the Lions retain not only the Log of Wood but also the Jonah Lomu Trophy and will need to bounce back with a victory over Southland next Saturday when they return to Navigation Homes Stadium if they are any chance of making the quarter-finals.
