Reforging the Steelers - an insiders documentary

In the COVID-plagued 2020 season Counties Manukau Rugby teamed up with RugbyPass to put together a behind-the-scenes documentary around the PIC Steelers’ NPC campaign.

The series will feature three 30-minute episodes as we build towards the start of the 2021 provincial season.

Fans will get a first-hand look at what goes into a season, how the COVID challenge impacted everyone and see what it means to be a PIC Steelers representative.

The episodes will be released online with the first one airing this Sunday at 8pm. The second episode will be released at the same time a week later before the final instalment comes out on the following Sunday.

Fans can visit www.rugbypass.com to view it.

“We are really excited about the finished product and the exposure it will give to our loyal partners who stuck by us in a COVID-interrupted year,” CMRFU chief executive Aaron Lawton said.

“We put our hearts and soul into what we do – from players to the coaching staff and front office to our partners and supporters. There is so much energy that goes into a campaign.

“This series will showcase the highs and lows of professional sport in a grassroots representative environment and we hope remind our fans why they love this proud provincial union.”

RugbyPass CEO Neil Martin said the documentary was compelling viewing for fans of grassroots rugby.

"We are thrilled to release this new three-part documentary, which provides a truly unique insider's view of one of New Zealand Rugby's most iconic teams,” Martin said.

"We are grateful to all the players, management team and support staff at Counties Manukau Rugby for allowing such unprecedented access and being prepared to bare all for our cameras."

"RugbyPass has a global reputation for storytelling and the PIC Steelers' 2020 season has plenty of engaging and inspiring stories throughout, from Kieran Read's final season in New Zealand to the challenges facing a new coach and New Zealand's youngest provincial rugby CEO in one of the country's most diverse rugby provinces."

The series will also screen on Sky Sport in the lead-up to this year’s National Provincial Championship.
