Sotutu takes top award at PIC Steelers Awards

Hoskins Sotutu has been crowned the PIC Steelers Player of the Year at the Counties Manukau Rugby annual awards night held at the Pukekohe Indian Association Hall on Thursday night.

The former All Black number eight enjoyed a strong campaign with the PIC Steelers and was recognised for his performances with the top award.

Veteran players Jimmy Tupou and Sean Reidy were the joint winners of the Players’ Player of the Year award, voted on by the players themselves.

Tupou also picked up the Most Valuable Player award while Reidy and Maama Vaipulu were the joint winners of the Pride in the Hoops award.

Lock James Thompson won the Defensive Player of the Year award while hooker Ian West-Stevens was announced as Rookie of the Year.

Winger Josh Gray was Attack Player of the Year.

Etene Nanai-Seturo was named the Supporters Club Player of the Year.

Pukekohe lock Callum Adams took out the PIC Steelers Development Player of the Year, following up his strong club season.

TJ Meleisea was named the PIC Steelers Development Attack Player of the Year while halfback Kanavale Helu was Defensive Player of the Year.

Kafa Vaea took out the Connected (Player of the Year) award for the Counties Manukau U19s.

Jayden Flanagan won the Courage (Attack Player of the Year) award and Austin Carew the Work Hard (Defensive Player of the Year) gong.

Apai Ma’u Hinkes took out the U18 Boys’ Player of the Year while David Kama was named Attack Player of the Year and Daniel Lagalaga-Slade the Defensive Player of the Year.

Mele Latu’ila was announced as the U18 Girls’ Player of the Year, while Pauline Purcell won the Attack Player of the Year and Leitisia Vehikite was the Defensive Player of the Year.

In the Under 16 Boys Defensive Player of the Year went to Damien Seuea, Attack Player to Devontae Pasi and Player of the Year to Cassius Meleiseā.

In the Under 16 Girls Defensive Player of the Year was won by Brooke Tilton-Mist, Attack Player by Nekeisha Sefatu and Player of the Year went to Precyous Tuifua.
