Steelers beat Manawatu to stay in playoff fight

The PIC Steelers have kept their quarter-final ambitions alive with a superb 46-19 win over Manawatu at Navigation Homes Stadium on Saturday.

The home side conceded a pair of early tries to trail for the majority of the opening quarter but took control of the game in the 20 minutes before halftime.

Winger Josh Gray and hooker Ioane Moananu both scored try doubles in the win while the PIC Steelers also dotted down through Suetena Asomua, Sean Reidy, Ian West-Stevens and Etene Nanai-Seturo.

The bonus point win lifts Reon Graham’s side to eight on the table as it stands, with more games to be played this round.

It means a win against Otago next weekend in Dunedin is likely to secure the side a spot in the quarter-finals.

That game is set for 2.05pm next Sunday.
