Job Vacancy: Referee Education Officer

The Counties Manukau Rugby Football Union (the Union) along with the Counties Manukau Rugby Referees Association (CMRRA) are seeking applications for a Referee Education Officer to manage the development, promotion and implementation of initiatives that increase the recruitment, retention, training and education of referees.  To achieve this aim this full time role based in Counties Manukau, will be responsible for the delivery of training, resources and services along with promoting best practice to referee associations, the Union, schools, and clubs as well as providing education opportunities for players, coaches, media and fans in the Laws of the Game and the role of the referee.

Ideally, candidates would have experience in the following areas:

  • Recognised referee experience
  • A background in sports administration
  • An understanding of the game of rugby and the Laws of the Game
  • Proven relationship management and networking skills
  • Excellent planning, time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to train referees, coaches, and referee coaches
  • Outstanding communication skills – both written and verbal
  • Presenting or facilitating at training workshops

 

Applicants also need to be a team player with a positive ‘can do’ attitude, be able to work flexible hours and travel throughout the Counties Manukau region.

The Union is the guardian of our national provincial teams (the Steelers and the Heat) as well as community rugby in the Counties Manukau region. Counties has a storied history involving several iconic legends of the game such as Jonah Lomu, Joeli Vidiri, Tana Umaga, Sonny Bill Williams, Bruce Robertson and Andy Dalton. Our focus is to build on this history to establish ourselves as one of the leading rugby unions in the country.

 

CORE SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

This role will require the following key skills and experience:

Field of Education:                   Sports Management/Teaching/Coaching

Years of Experience:                10+

Language Requirements:         English (strong written and verbal skills)

Specific Knowledge/Skills:       Understanding of the club and school rugby environment

Strong interpersonal skills

Excellent presentation and facilitation skills

Competent computer skills

Personal Qualities:                   A positive, enthusiastic and collaborative attitude.
